Why Michigan?

Top Ranked Jurisdiction for Mining

The US consistently ranks as one of the top mining jurisdictions globally. With a stable permitting and tax regime, Michigan distinguishes itself as a great place to operate.

Mobility and Electrification

Michigan’s focus on mobility and electrification make it an ideal state for Highland Copper to operate in. Our goal is to become a key source of U.S. domestic copper production.

Well Developed Infrastructure

The Upper Peninsula is well developed in terms of roads, rail and access to grid power. White Pine North operated for 40 years and has access to considerable near-site infrastructure.

Current Projects

Highland Copper is working on the development of two promising copper mining projects in the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The Copperwood Project is a greenfield project with a projected 10.7-year mine life. It is a lower capital intensity project that can rapidly reach commercial production, making it an ideal first project for the company.

The White Pine North Project, held jointly with Kinterra, is located approximately 45 miles (72.5 kilometers) away, in Ontonagon County. It is a brownfield site where the White Pine mine was previously operated for over 40 years by Copper Range Company, producing over 4.5 billion pounds of copper.

Advancing toward construction

Copperwood Project

Copperwood is Highland Copper’s 100% owned, fully permitted copper project in Michigan, a state that is fully supportive of electrification. With a current 2023 Feasibility Study, significant local support, and early site preparation underway, Copperwood is poised to be the next US copper producer at the perfect time.

Advancing toward permits and Feasibility Study

White Pine North Project

Highland Copper’s 34% joint venture interest in White Pine North is supported by the technical and financial strength of the operator, Kinterra Copper USA. With a current 2023 Preliminary Economic Assessment, a recently initiated drill program, and Kinterra’s expertise in permitting, White Pine North is capable of sequencing its development shortly after Copperwood.
